Sam is absolutely delighted to have been invited to lead more nature walks on behalf of Berwickshire Marine Reserve in 2023.

Confirmed dates so far are:

Wednesday April 5th at 10:00

Wednesday April 19th at 18:00

We will be meeting outside St Abbs Old School Cafe, TD14 5PH, before walking around the St Abbs nature reserve. The highlights in April will be the nesting seabirds such as guillemot, razorbill, kittiwake, fulmar and shag. Inland we are likely to see resident birds such as stonechat and yellowhammer and the summer visitors such as swallows, wheatear and various warblers should be returning. We will also be looking out for early flowering wild flowers and early flying insects. I have written up the following reports of walks around St Abbs Head in 2022:

The walks are likely to last about 2 hours, but please leave longer, particularly for the morning session, as we sometimes get carried away. Please wear shoes that a re suitable for off road walking and clothes suitable for the weather conditions. If you have binoculars, please bring them as I only have a limited number to share.

Other Nature Events

Stillingfleet Lodge Wildlife Day, Near York  – 25th June although I am not currently running anything specific at this event I will be available around the garden to help you identify the flora and fauna of the garden. The event showcases the work of local wildlife groups and there will be many experts on hand who are much more specialised in their knowledge than me!

Apple Day at Woodside Walled Garden near Jedburgh – 8th October – I will be leading pond dipping sessions throughout the day – more details to follow.

Coldstream Social & Literary Society presentation about Berwickshire Marine Reserve.  – 6th November. More details to follow
